Arts in Health, Music Cognition, & Neuroimaging
As an artist-researcher, I have developed an original method for utilizing both creative processes and research processes to inform one another and develop solutions against health inequities: my arts interventions praxis. My approach combines arts-based inquiry with mixed research methods investigating root causes of health inequities to create music interventions composed with evidence-based approaches to modulate neural activity. Thus, I develop research methods integrating public health with neuroscience and Black Feminist thought to create stress-reducing music interventions, analyze neural responses and behavioral responses to music, and create music-guided therapeutic experiences involving audience participation and music listening to reduce stress.

Public Health/Health Policy
Within the field of public health, I am interested in how social inequities and everyday individual-level and population-level social interactions in the lived environments of Black and low-income communities impact disease distribution within these marginalized communities. I synthesize these commonly quantitative data with theoretical frameworks from the social sciences and humanities to develop action steps and health policy recommendations aimed at addressing the root causes of disease states and improving community health.

Cancer
My research career in cancer has spanned from the fields of biomedicine to market research. I apply my background in cancer drug discovery research and development to monitor advances in cancer drug and vaccine clinical trials, assess racial and ethnic inequalities across cancer types and severity, and develop research, marketing/business, and policy strategies for stakeholders.
